MOGL's Visit to Columbus, Ohio
MOGL took a trip onsite to Columbus, Ohio for an event and podcast. While in town, the team spoke to Ohio State University athletes, athletic administrators and local businesses about name, image and likeness and what they want out of it in this new era.
The NIL event was held on the week of the Notre Dame Ohio State University season opening college football game at Seventh Son Brewing Co.
Later in the week, the MOGL team hosted best friends, star Ohio State wideout Marvin Harrison, Jr. and backup QB Kyle McCord, on the MOGL Podcast.
MOGL Columbus NIL Event
The Columbus NIL event began with networking as MOGL staff members answered questions from business owners about the value of marketing with NCAA athletes.
Ohio State University athletes from a range of sports from football to fencing attended the event. Representatives from Ohio businesses including Huntington National Bank, Nationwide Insurance, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, Ricart Automotive and Byers Automotive were also there among over 50 other attendees.
The social hour was followed by an NIL information session lead by MOGL CEO Ayden Syal and Chief Athletic Officer Brandon Wimbush, former Notre Dame quarterback.
Next, Syal and Wimbush moderated a panel with OSU football players Sonny Styles and Tommy Eichenberg as guest speakers.
The presentation illustrated why student-athlete influencers provide uniquely scalable ROI and how to optimize campaign performance using the MOGL platform.
“MOGL is excited to have connected so many NCAA athletes with their community,” said Wimbush. “As a former student athlete, I understand the importance of giving back to your college town.”
“As a member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, MOGL is actively involved in the Columbus community,” said Syal. “This city is made up of tremendous fans of Ohio State and their support for the student-athletes is second to none.”
NIL Information Session Q & A
After the presentation, the floor was opened to questioning from event attendees and business representatives interested in using MOGL to market their brands using collegiate athletes.
One audience member asked what MOGL allows them to do that they couldn’t otherwise do on their own. Syal responded by explaining that MOGL saves businesses time and effort that they would spend on sourcing athletes for campaigns.
Syal added, “it is our pleasure to provide them the technology and tools to help them continue to support and connect with these incredible athletes.”
MOGL provides an athlete database that can be filtered by categories and a streamlined hiring, compliance, messaging and payment process through the platform. Without MOGL, a business would have to manually find, contact, hire, draft contracts for, communicate with and pay athletes without organized systems in place.
Another attendee asked how going through MOGL to work with athletes is different from going through the athlete’s agent separately. Syal emphasized that MOGL acts as a customer relationship management (CRM) tool to achieve marketing goals and manage campaigns.
MOGL provides technology for managing all of a company's relationships and interactions with athletes who are currently working with your company on influencer campaigns and athletes with the potential to work with your company in the future.
Pregame Panel
The event closed with a panel hosted by MOGL co-founders Syal and Wimbush who have Notre Dame alumni ties to the two Ohio State University football players that spoke on the panel, five star safety Sonny Styles and team captain Tommy Eichenberg.
Sonny Styles’ brother Lorenzo starts at wide receiver for Notre Dame and the brothers went head to head for the first time at the collegiate level, ultimately resulting in an Ohio State Victory. Sonny and Lorenzo’s father, Lorenzo, Sr. was also in attendance. Lorenzo, Sr played for the Ohio State Buckeyes for three years before being selected in the third round of the 1995 NFL Draft and eventually winning Super Bowl XXXIV with the Rams.
Tommy Eichenberg's brother, Liam Eichenberg, was a former Notre Dame football captain and offensive lineman. Liam was a second round NFL draft pick in 2021 and currently plays for the Miami Dolphins. Tommy was just announced as a captain of the 2022 OSU football team.
The panelists reflected on the ties between them and the MOGL team as well as the dynamic between them and their brothers being on opposing teams while answering fan questions about predictions in advance of the game and season.
When asked about who his parents were rooting for, Sonny Styles laughed that his mother would be wearing a half Notre Dame half Ohio State jersey while his father would reserve his comments for after the game.
